The UAE Green Visa is a type of residence visa introduced to attract skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs. Unlike a normal work visa, it is not tied to an employer. This gives more independence to the visa holder, as you can sponsor yourself instead of being sponsored by a company.
The Green Visa is usually valid for 5 years and can be renewed.
The UAE Green Visa is available for three main categories:
1. Skilled Employees
Must have a valid employment contract in the UAE.
Job must be in the first, second, or third level of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Minimum salary of AED 15,000 per month.
2. Freelancers / Self-Employed
Need a freelance or self-employment permit from MoHRE.
Proof of academic qualification (at least diploma) or evidence of work experience.
Proof of sufficient financial solvency to live in the UAE.
3. Investors / Partners
Proof of investment in a business in the UAE.
Approval of the investment and relevant licenses from authorities.
Financial proof of investment amount (varies by emirate).
No employer sponsorship required — more independence and flexibility.
Valid for 5 years, longer than standard residence visas.
Family sponsorship: You can sponsor your spouse, children (up to 25 years old for sons, no age limit for unmarried daughters), and parents.
Family members can stay in the UAE for the same duration as the visa holder.
Renewable as long as requirements are met.
A strong option for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers who want stability without relying on one employer.
